As anyone that has camped at the Falcon's Nest on Shaw AFB, SC knows; the sewer connections leave a lot to be desired. At Larry's suggestion I just submitted comments regarding this issue through ICE to the base leaders. I also followed the link to the Support Group Commanders (formerly known as the Base Commander for us "older GI's") email and used that forum also to request leadership look into updating the system. Request other folks do the same and let's see if our involvement makes a difference. Thanks in advance, Roy

It's been about a week and haven't gotten a reply to the ICE comment I submitted. I did request a reply. I'll give them a while longer and then call directly to see if they received or if there's a problem.

In my opinion its not bad at all. They have a really nice staffed bldg on site and if I remember correctly they sell snacks, ice, etc. as well as having a lounge and other amenities. The campground is on base with good roads. There are trees surrounding the place and there are running/walking trails all around the area as well as a park that the squadrons, etc. use for picnics and other get togethers. The only issue with the campground is the sewer connections that need upgraded. However, they work which is most important. I'm going out to the base tomorrow and if I get a chance will take a picture for you. I also might suggest you query the staff regarding how long a sewer hose you will need. The base has a brand new exchange with gas station next door. The commissary is close by and has a great selection. There is also a movie theater on base as well as swimming pool, bowling ally, golf course, nice park and fishing pond and two gyms (one recently renovated and the other one is new). The base also has a nice library that includes a sit down coffee/food section and free internet. Shaw AFB is now a joint service base with both AF and Army personnel stationed there. The local town (Sumter) is really growing and has some excellent restaurants, antique stores, large movie theater, shopping, and Swan Lake which is enjoyable. I lived in Sumter from 1987-1992 and then from 1994-2008 and as you can probably figure our really like the place. I am really proud of the base and it's appearance. I still own a condo on a nearby lake thus visit at least once every six weeks or so. Again, I'm sure you enjoy your stay.
