We received the same e-mail as JLitton this AM. Sounds like the pre-registration will give them less work to do when you arrive and you will get to your site quicker, that is about it, still first come first serve.

Just got an e mail fm them this am. Navy Getaways is now in effect and as has been stated earlier you can preregister to make in processing a bit easier, but site selection is still on a first come first served basis. The office is now in the ITT bldg which makes sense, but I hope they aren't overcrowded in there. It's not a big bldg.

Ooh doom and gloom..
I was just on the phone with Navy Gateways.. Tried to make reservations for Navy Solomons (Maryland).. After several attempts to explain that I wanted an RV site and not lodging they booked my request.. I thought.. when they concluded the conversation they quoted me $9.00 a night.. Took a phone call to Solomons to fix it.. Gateways had put me into a tent site with a note that we requested water and electric if available. The Solomons crew corrected the reservation to full hook up at $26.00 a night, more like it.
On edit.. found the website.. www.dodlodging.net
Tried a trial run for Key West all that shows up is "no availability"..
Solomons (NRC Solomons) it has camping selections..
[doom and gloom voice] This is going to be a long bumpy flight.. [/doom and gloom voice]
ITT building: Went into ITT to pick-up Ft Jefferson Ferry tickets. Parking for our F-350 and 25ft 5er was an adventure (parked on lawn with softball field maintenance trucks) there is no parking for trailers/big rigs..
Note: Why am I so doomy & gloomy? Spent 30 years 22 daze watching The USN (and 19 years watching The USMC, as a Brat) centralize a process to fix a non-existent problem

I tried to sign up with the Getaways reservation system and they do not even allow me to sign up. It is just for people who somehow are already signed up with login info. Bizarre. Being retired and 100% service onnected has no benefit in that military reservation system! I can never get a room or in this case a place to park my RV even!
What is the deal?
