I will chuckle  as I write this post titled "CALLING ON A HIGHER POWER"

My wife and I planned a trip from Memphis, TN to Branson, MO for Father's Day weekend :woohoo: . During my route planning there were 3 different routes to take according to Google Maps, and we weren't partial to either, as there wasn't much difference in drive time between the routes. My wife lights up for beautiful sceneries (green trees, water falls, lakes, etc. - you know nature stuff). I hit the RV forums and ask other experienced RV'ers for the best scenic route. The responses were just what I asked for - northern route US40 > US55 > US63 > US401.

We commenced to hitting the open road US40 > US55 > US63. It was the scenic route we asked for, plus some old rustic barns, houses, and <500 population cities/towns. We crossed Mammoth Springs, AK which had a beautiful Dam that can be seen (very close) from US63. After a nice ride, we decided to boondock in White Plains, MO at the US63 / US160 junction.

The next day, here we go, the US160. This was a roller coaster ride, the closer we got to Branson, the more tight turns, steep hills (up and down), cliffs, falling rock, no guard rails, etc. :woohoo: . This ride really gave me some Class "A" engine, transmission, and brake management experience. Here is where the trip gets interesting. My wife is now on the edge of her seat, "CALLING ON A HIGHER POWER". For the next 2 hours I heard "Jesus", "Oh Lord", "God please let us arrive safe", "you are going too fast" - 35 was not too fast, "you are too close to the side of the road" - was an illusion, etc. etc. I suggested to my wife, to got in the bedroom and take a nap  . Her reply "heck no, I want to make sure we arrive safe" - wait I thought I was driving. What she really means is she wants to control me driving to ensure she has a say. She called on "Jesus" so much, I truly believe he was with us the whole ride - Thank You.

Once we arrive our RV Resort, my wife got out of the RV and said "Thank You Jesus" and then asked me do we have to take the same route back home. I was literally crying in laughter  and replied "no my love, I wouldn't put you though that again, we will take the highway". She then said "good, no more so called scenic routes mister".

I believe we have permanent grip marks on the RV handrail from her holding on so tight.

It's hard to put this true story into words, but you get the gist. Otherwise you had to be there.

Good story. As long as you arrive safe, it's a good trip.

I've had similar experiences, except my wife WILL go in the bedroom and lay down. Also, usually at the end of a scary trip, she'll kiss me and thank me for getting us there safely. To me, they usually aren't as bad as she seems they are. But I'll take credit any way I can.

WOW did your story bring back memories. Our first trip to Branson about 10 years ago we took this road in a 38'motorhome and have been back to Branson numerous times and NEVER would we go that way again. I am like your wife I have to see what is going on and if memory serves my mouth never stopped yapping and CALLING TO A HIGHER POWER was definitely needed. We are heading to Branson this November for veterans week as we love the Veterans Day parade so if anyone is heading there for the first time you will have the time of your life as 500,000 veterans came into town for veterans week when we were there 3 years ago and I expect it will be just as awesome this year.
