Went to private doctor the other day. He takes Medicare and TFL ... Has anyone that has both ever had also a Co-pay for a normal doctor visit, nothing complicated, not even a test. $95 extra they billed, telling me my insurance didn't pay it, and it's a Medicare deductible each year. Never heard of that - never paid a copay/deductible in eleven years.

I always thought with Medicare and TFL, all copays and deductibles are covered...

Why have a secondary insurance, if it's not to cover Copays and Deductibles? Thanks B

My wife sees several private doctors regularly using Medicare and TFL and we have never paid a deductible or copay. I will add that she has always had a referral from the Tricare office at Eisenhower Army Hospital to go to any outside doctor that accepts Medicare because they could not provide the specialty at Eisenhower. I don't know if having an initial referral influences the copay/deductible situation or not but I would not think it would.

I've never had a co-pay using Medicare & TFL. That includes primacy care doctor, specialist and hospitals.

I would report the doctor to Medicare. Be sure to explain the full circumstances to Medicare.

Had to pay for a 'virtual' doctor visit earlier this year. At that time TFL was not authorized to pay (would have been part of Medicare Deductible). Former employer, however, does have a HSA for retirees so that covered it.

MONKEY44 - update: Hospital Medical Billing company billed me inaccurately - took seven months to fix it, sent duplicate paperwork three times. Each time, ignored. Finally sent complaint to TFL grievance website, and it was fixed in a couple weeks - no copay, no fees, exactly as it should be.

A warning: If anyone gets a billing, LOOK at it, make sure you are not getting billed for something you did not receive. Don't give up - persevere ...
