I was in Tuscon last winter for[Spring Training] & needed a prescription refill so went to the VA in town and they said if your just passing through they can not do that. [I'm 100% DAV,3 years active'3 years reserved,Honorable discharge] and so I just went to the local Walgreens to get my refill.
What's funny now since I'm back home in Illinois is they got my home address and send me there News Letter on all the benefits for the Vet's to receive. ~smile~
Just wondering if anybody knows how to over come some of these detours went travel in the US?

You can ask your local military Dr. Pa. Nurse Prac. or provider at the military facility to write you a new RX. for the things you will need while you are gone. All of the facilities will take the new RX. I believe. We have not had a problem with it anyway.
Also please note that Fort Leonard Wood will not transfer RX's for you either. Like said before most will do it. :

Military pharmacy will fill Veterans Hospital RX if you bring it in -- I've had my VA doctor mail my script to me and the navy pharmacy on Kings Bay, Georgia filled it, no problem. I'm guessing, that other military doctors will send you the script as well. I'm not sure about civilian doctors, as then it becomes a state of issuance for the doctor --
For example, a civilian doctor in New York can't write a prescription in Florida -- but a military doctor or a VA doctor can write one anywhere in the world (to my knowledge, anyway). So, something to look at on the personal level if that helps.

Have your doctor write your maintenance med prescriptions for 90 days with 3 refills (1 year). Go to
express-scripts.com/
. Go to the DOD section of the website and setup your account with them. They also have the forms that you need to use to send in the first prescription.
You can track your prescriptions online and order your refills that way also. You can pay by credit or debit card and tell them where you want the prescriptions sent.
It is cheap, dependable and easy to use.

We started full timing a year ago from Alaska and had our prescriptions sent to Escripts for filling. We have been very pleased with this system and haven't encountered any problems. Here is our dilemma now. Our prescriptions have run out and need to be renewed but as full timers with no home base we have no physician to prescribe. And we aren't finding any Military clinics that will see TriCare Standard. The Tricare web site listed Hanscom AFB, MA as taking new patients and accepting Tricare Standard, but when we went there, they refused to see us and sent us to a local clinic. We went to this local clinic here in MA and were told they would not renew our prescriptions for longer than 60 days. Do you know of ANY military clinic that does see TriCare Standard patients?
