Boycott NEX/AAFES CITGO Fuel was created by ucgator
Even though NEX has taken the CITGO logo off their facilities, they still only provide fuel from two CITGO contracts - one expires this year and the other in 2010. I have corresponded with both the NEX and AAFES command elements and NEX has responded. Here is a copy of my communication with them to explain my concerns: "How can you possibly keep having CITGO provide fuels to the NEXAAFES service stations? Providing funds to a country whose leader is an outspoken enemy of the USA doesn't seem right to me. As such, I have not purchased any fuel at any military facility, NEX or AAFES, in over two years! Have been meaning to send this email for quite a while and was remiss in not doing so sooner. Anyway, I think this item should be addressed with the view toward getting this fuel source cancelled ASAP". Naturally NEX stated that their contracts are totally in compliance with laws and regs and cannot be cancelled unless supplier has principally criminal or fraudulent conduct. Expect same reply from AAFES. In the meantime I also asked for assistance from both FL Senators just for kicks! So thought about posting this here on a site where members might be using a bit more fuel than the normal consumer. Since FL has a predominance of CITGO commercial stations with normally the lowest prices, I have had a personal boycott for some months and even though I feel good about that, it is too minute to be of significance. Just hoping that maybe I can spread the word and eventually it might make a difference in gas sales at military facilities. Me, I'm a Flying J, Sunoco, Hess, RaceTrac user - no Chavez OR Middle Eastern oil! Hope this hits a nerve with someone as it has me and thanks for reading.
ADDED: Just got reply from AAFES - they say they do not have any contracts with CITGO, so will take them at their word. I do know that CITGO logo used to be on the pumps, but since I have not frequented a military service station in some time guess things have changed. Sorry for the wrong info but happy that AAFES doesn't use Chavez fuel!!

I have boycotted NEX gas stations for years, not because of what gas they sell but because of the price they charge. I was on an Army base yesterday and checked the gas prices. I could buy cheaper off base at most gas stations. I guess that is what happens when they turned NEX/AFFES over to civilian contractors. Now I only shop the exchange fot high ticket items to save the sales tax.

Absolutely correct ... civilian contractors are driven by PROFIT, nothing more - nothing less.
