I didn't come up with this. I found it posted by Brianwl (Air Force Vet from Boise, ID) on the Escapee's Vet. Forum this a.m. and thought it needed to be here too. Brian posted:

This is NOT intended to be political.

President elect Obama is in the midst of putting together his cabinet. One slot that is very important to me is who will be running the VA for the next 4 years. The VA needs a hard charger and Tammy Duckworth is just that.

Tammy is the chopper pilot who lost both legs in Iraq. She ran for Congress but lost and subsequently was appointed to the position of IL Vet Rep by the Governor.

If you feel like I do that we need a disabled Vet running the VA, then you can tell the President elect here. Obama Transition Team

My first response was "Tammy Who?", so I started looking around and soon found a fairly comprehensive bio on Wickipedia:

I'm was also pretty sure I had seen a clip on TV in the last two days of her walking with Obama - I wondered at the time who that was and now I know -- thanks Brian. (Here's a picture of the two of them: change.gov/newsroom/entry/slideshow...iders_memorial/

This is one hell of a woman and American. My only conflict is that she is also being mentioned for appointment to Pres-Elect Obama's seat in the Senate. I think she'd do pretty well there also.

But I second Brian's recommendation: click on the link above and get involved! Send them your thoughts on this. If you don't like Major Duckworth, then let them know who you do recommend!
