I don''t know if this is the right place or if this question has been asked, but, here goes:

In case you don't have a passport, can you use your military ID card along with a birth certificate to cross the border into Canada or Mexico and return to the USA?

I believe at this time only a passport or a passport card is sufficient to cross into the US from Mexico or Canada.

Last summer we were in Washington and they told us we had to have the passport or passport ID to get to Canada. We now have the passport ID cards.

You have to get the passport or the pasport card.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll renew my passport and get my wife a passport ID.

The passport Id Cards are nice. They are only about the size of a credit card and they are cheaper than passports. But they cannot be used if flying or taking a boat. Then you have to have a passport.
