Tri care was created by timetotravel
Am on Tri Care Prime and travelling. Will not be back in home area until June. Had injury which could require emergency room. I called Tri Care and they told me if not back in 30 days would have to report and find new care manager. How do you manage? Do you convert back to Tri Care standard and pay the additional costs? Prescriptions no problem but what about hospital etc? Hope someone can give me idea. Don't want to lose the care.

Sorry I can't be of any help. We travel fulltime and use TriCare Standard. In my opinion, this is the best option for those who travel extensively.
For those interested, here's a good article on why I feel this way. The article may be a little old, but the logic and information is still valid.

Under Tricare, if you require the use of a ER, then just go to the ER. Tricare will pay if the Dr. deems it necessary for the visit. If follow-up is required just call Tricare and they can give you authorizations for the followup. We have used it before and it works good. Good luck,

Only thing I would add to what has been said here is I believe you need to also call your PCM you use at home and they will call Tri-Care also and authorize your ER visit. We are extended travellers also and on Tri-Care Prime and any time we need medical care on the road we place a call to Tri-Care and our PCM just to be sure we have not forgotten to notify anyone. Depending on what the nature of your injury is Tri-Care may request you see an MD in the area and they will find you one. Good luck and hope you are on the mend soon.

we are on prime
if i need med work and are out of area, its the ER
it costs 30 bux to do it, but saves me from changing docs at their whim

You are right and that is what I did, turns out the person at tricare and I must have miscommunicated. Anyway, paid the $30 and got the referral and trip should not be delayed.
