Fiatspider79 (Glen),
You said,"You don't get a choice in the matter. That really screws up some people who are expecting to keep their prime and don't plan for the change."
When you turn 65 and become elegible for Medicare, you will automatically be put on Medicare and Tricare for Life. You do not have to register for it. You DO have to register for SS though. This is about the best medical coverage you can get! What Medicare does not cover, TFL does and you end up paying nothing. There is no additional cost for TFL, only the part B premium for Medicare. There are no deductibles and no co-pays. You can go to any doctor you wish and as long as they accept Medicare, they also accept TFL. You do not have to fill out any paperwork at the doctors office either. They bill Medicare and Medicare also sends the bill to TFL. What you WILL get is a lot of EOB's from both Medicare and TFL. : You also do not have to register for Medicare - it happens automatically. If you do NOT want the part B then you must return a card but you DO want part B as that is required for the TFL. The only additional insurance I carry is eyeglass and dental coverage through Blue Cross and that is a very small monthly amount. It does not get much better than that. You will have no need for additional medical insurance including Tricare Prime. You earned it now reap the rewards.

I knew it was something like that. But I hadn't considered the "per member" cap. That's even better!

Correct me if I'm mistaken here -- but I believe the TC Standard CAP is $1500 per family member, and $3000 per family annually. But it does change occasionally, and I'm not exacty sure here at this point in time ...

larry, you should take Barneys'ses reply and sticky tape it to the top of this directory. It is the best answer I have seen yet on the TFL issue and well worth holding on to.
Of course that is IMHO.
