I've been told that the camp ground at the Submarine Base Kings Bay is really nice. There is also a state park, Crooked River, that is suppose to be a good place which is in the same area outside St Marys GA. got this info from a retired air force couple that we met when last camping in Charleston SC. they gave me the info on this great web site also.

You would be comfortable at either Pelican Roost in Mayport, Fl. or Eagle Hammock in Kings Bay, Ga. We have been at both many times and the staff and accomodations are excellent. There is more to do in Mayport than Kings Bay but we always drive to Jax NAS to the commissary and NEX as they are the biggest and best in the south Ga., north Fl. area no matter were we camp, easy drive from both campgrounds. We have driven into the Crooked River State Park and it is a typical state park, looks like some sites you can get satelitte but as state parks go it was clean and well laid out. If you decide to go to either one make your reservation the 120 days out as they both fill up quickly. You would probably be happier in Kings Bay, Ga. as there is no big city anywhere near them. St. Mary's, Ga. (very small) and Cumberland Island National Seashore (via ferry) would be it. Good luck and happy travelling. Sandi and Lambert Elboeck

Sandy & Rich,
thnx for the excellent info. We'll report next Fall how it went.
"Fill up slower", makes the cost hurt less. jims
