Springwood RV park is situated a block from the closed Donaldson AFB at Greenville, SC. When you first find the place you may ask yourself - "What in the heck am I doing here". The park manager - brother-in-law to the owner - lives in this park and has two grown sons at other sites here. They keep the place neat & clean and insure the rules are adhered to. They are the reason we have no problem staying here. At least half of the park's spaces are taken up by transient contract workers who work for the companies that have large military contracts being accomplished at Donaldson Center. They may be in pop-up's or large motor homes - tenting is only allowed for the short term. Another 25 % of the park is rental trailers and they are almost 100% of the time rented to Mexicans. The rest of the park is normally rented to the passing/short term RVer. You must call to get a weekly/monthly quote. We have stayed here a lot and never stay for less than a month because it's the same as what the contractors pay. $282 FHU - 50 Amps + anything over $50 on metered elect. If you have the ability to switch your water heater & refrigerator to propane and are vigilant with your use of air/heat you will never exceed the $50 elect cap. We set our furnace on 68 when we go to bed and run a small elect heater in our bedroom and have never been over. You are allowed to wash your rig on site here - no charge. If you plan an extended stay, TV & Phone hook-ups are available. We like sites 20 & 57. They are back-ins but very nicely shaded and are large (60' +). When the city of Greenville took control of Donaldson AFB many years ago they decided to keep the 9 hole golf course and it is still in operation today. It sports a wide open venue that promotes a "grip-it & rip-it" atmosphere. it's a great place to hone your game for the narrower courses in the area who's fairways demand accuracy. You can walk 9 holes (senior) for $7 during the week. Add a cart for $8 and add another 9 holes for $5. It is the most walked course in the area. The Greenville area has all the seasons and may seem a little cool if you have been staying in a warmer environment. We have spent the entire winter here and I was able to play golf with a cart at least once every week. It is now the longest we have stayed in an area. We have taken side trips. (Springwood management keeps an extra eye on stuff you leave behind when you're on a side trip). 150 miles to Atlanta, 100 mi. to Columbia, 225 mi. to Foster Creek near Charleston, 250 mi. to Fayetteville, NC, 110 mi. to Charlotte, NC, 265 mi. to Myrtle Beach, 100 mi to Asheville, NC and up over the mountains just another couple hundred miles is Knoxville. Soon we will leave this place for up state NY and New England then out west for another extended stay in Yuma, AZ. Just look for the Black Dodge with a big ole Everest in tow. Just honk or come on over and yack. After being hooked-up with the Navy Department for more than 40 years I've got some pretty good "Sea Stories" to tell if your ear is bendable. Saw this Phantom HP out of Bien-..................OOPS! See how easy it was for me to get started.
