Best route from West Point to Harrisburg PA was created by seadog
Hi all,
Wondering about driving a 36ft motorhome w/towd from West Point(USMA) to Harrisburg, PA. Would like to go New York State Thruway(I-87) south to I-287 in NJ, then I-287 down to I-78, then west to I-81 to Harrisburg.
Alternately, maybe I-84 from just north of West Point to I-81 and then south to Harrisburg is better.
Appreciate any advice on the best route for this trip.
Thanks,
Jim

I will be through there twice in September.. once each way..
Here is how I go.. I avoid tolls (they are killers to a double axle trailer and congestion (I-287))
From West Point
1. Head southwest on NY-293 S 5.2 mi
2. Continue onto US-6 W 3.3 mi
3. Take the ramp onto NY-17 W/US-6 W 12.7 mi
4. Continue onto NY-17 W 4.3 mi
5. Take exit 121W to merge onto I-84 W toward Port Jervis
Entering Pennsylvania 73.0 mi
6. Take the exit on the left onto I-81 S toward Wilkes-Barre 121 mi
7. Take exit 66 for Front St toward Downtown/Harrisburg
Note: Cheapest fuel in Northeast at I-84 Exit 1 (NY).. I-84 Exit 1 is yards north of the New Jersey State Line.. Diesel will be about $0.25 to $0.30 a gallon cheaper than NY or PA by driving 200 yards into NJ. Big rig friendly..
