Any RC "Multicopter" (UAV - Drone) Users Here?
I started learning on a small Hubson X5, which I could fly in the RV. Once I felt more confident, I took it outside and have been doing flips with it. I've only crashed it about 50 times now, but it has taken the brutality well.
I then moved up to what my original goal was, I purchased a 3DR Iris+. The Iris+ is much larger, but also much easier to fly. But I'm not doing flips with it. I only crashed it once, on my 2nd flight. My stupid error. It gave me the warning that the battery was getting low, but I ignored the warning. Oops, up she goes, then down she goes (very quickly). Not much damage, only a broken leg.
I've since have added a GoPro camera on a gimble and am learning to take good aerial photos and videos. I'd be taking aerial photos of the military campgrounds, but most military installations object to having a drone fly over their base.
Besides having fun with it, I'll be taking scenic and nature photos with the quad during our upcoming Alaska trip.

I watched the TV show Modern Family recently and a neighbor kept flying a copter over Jay and Glorias property so they could see Gloria in her bathing suit. They got their revenge by blowing it out of the sky, awesome.
You could make some good candid camera episodes with this too and have your wife film you while you are doing some silly stuff and send it into Americas Funniest Videos.

The larger drones are much more expensive and I don't really want to crash it (if I can help it). It's much more specialized for aerial photography.

Maybe if you contacted the Public Affairs Officer at the base and explained what you were doing, they might give you permission to fly over the campground and take pictures. Show them the website and your identification as the "Owner" of the website. Allow them to have somebody accompany you while you're doing the filming and ensure that you are not taking pictures of sensitive areas.
It might be worth a shot and would sure give the users on here a unique view of a prospective campground!
The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

Thanks - I might give this a try and see what happens. Besides, they could also use the aerial photos/video for their own advertising.Sarge3398 wrote: Larry says: "I'd be taking aerial photos of the military campgrounds, but most military installations object to having a drone fly over their base."
