Geodesic Dome Homes

Does anyone here have any experience of building, living, or first-hand knowledge of Geodesic Dome Homes? Good, bad, recommended dealers, etc? Thanks!

Never built one, but worked on a few repairs when I was building in California.

The biggest complaint I heard from owners was the floor space is not very effective because of the wall and roof alignment / attachment. Second complaint was roof and skylight leaks - too many seams, and skylight nearly always leak anyway because wood, shingles, and metal flashing flexes and contracts in weather changes, so it's difficult to maintain a good bond on the seam seals. Very limited floor space on second tier too, same reason, walls not straight up.

Some folks really love 'em, despite the issues -- very limited floor space on second floor tho'.

Thanks for the feedback! Not going off the road anytime soon. Just thinking about the future (exit strategy). Even then, traveling is in my blood. We'd still be out and about half the time. We'd probably build in the Phoenix area again and would get out of there during the hot summers.

He built his own 40 miles south of SJAFB

go up to the showlow-lakeside area. there are some up there and ask about them. I have seen simular on the indian reservations but they are not quite the same. These are just setup in an octogonel configuration.
