Homemade or converted trailer restrictions

Homemade or converted trailer restrictions was created by PFerris
I hope everyone is having happy travels! I am planning on becoming a full timer in a couple years and am playing with the idea of converting a cargo trailer. Recently another person I talked with who has one was refused his reservation at a military camp once he got there because he had a converted cargo trailer and I guess wasn't considered a legitimate RV. If this is the case across the board, it could change my plans. Is anyone out there familiar with this scenario?

Many RV Parks (not just military) don't allow converted cargo trailers, cargo vans, or trucks.

I have a friend who converted one to a camper so he had a place to stay when out riding in the dunes. It didnt last long as he ended up (wife found) a toy hauler for him. Last I saw of the cargo trailer it was just that, a cargo trailer. There was a guy I ran into a couple of years ago in flagstaff who had one, but could only park on BLM lands. Nice idea not well received. Better off just getting an older trailer and up grading it if you just want simple place to stay. Sold a 92 dutchman TT which was a good basic trailer with some amenities. Remember that SOME rv parks have age/looks restrictions and wont let ya stay there if ratty looking etc. We had a 99 Kit Companion that looked new after 20 years and had no issues getting into rv parks. The name was the biggest question getter!
Did just read in a magazine about 18 wheeler convesrtions to rv's, guy converted his old container into a trailer! If something like that is going to be done I think an old bed bug trailer (moving van) would be better since it sits lower to the ground.
