Shingles Vaccine
Fasteagle, I'm not sure that is accurate, I got mine from my regular civilian doctor before I started this post and I assure you that mine was totally covered. I contacted Tricare prior to getting the shot to insure that it would be covered. I was told as I stated in the original post, that the FDA approved the vaccine and as such Tricare covers it and listed it in their formulary, there was no mention that you had to go to a MTC or clinic for this. As I said, I got mine from my civilian doctor, and since I have Tricare Standard, I did have to pay the normal co-pay....don't know the exact amount but seems to me it was like $20 bucks or so..... You might want a 2nd opinion....John
Thanks John, I'll check it out. I got my information at the Fort Jackson Hospital information booth run by volunteers. They have been known to be unreliable at times.

I was told the shot is approved but it has to be given by your health care provider. My doc doesn't stock the serum so I would have to go to a pharmacy to get the shot. If the pharmacy has to administer the vaccine it is not covered. My next question was if I get the serum and bring it to my health care provider and they give it to me is it covered then. The shot is covered but the vaccine isn't. That is what I was told by TriCare for life.
This was back in July 08 so perhaps things have changed since then.
I had Shingles earlier this year (Feb) and it wasn't a very nice six months. I am still feeling some of the effects and probably will for the next year or so.
I would like to get the vaccine but at about $150 it is a bit more than I can handle.

We tried to get the shots at our local County Health Department at home but, although TFL covers it, the coverage is on the prescription plan and not on the medical coverage part so they could not bill it. We would have had to pay for the shots and then try to get TFL to reimburse us. Decided to wait till we got to Florida for the winter. Glad we did!
