FastEagle was the call sign for Navy Fighter Squadron Forty-One (The Black Aces) where I served from 1964-1966 aboard the USS Independence CVA-62. And once again from 1977-1980 aboard the USS Nimitz CVN-68.

Hey, Fasteagle...I believe we served next to you on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt (the "Rusty Rosie") I served with the "Jolly Rogers" VF-84 from 69-72. I think that the "Flying Aces" were our sister squadron during that time.

Both times I served in VF-41 the "Jolly Rogers" (VF-84) was our sister squadron and their call sign was "Victory".

I was disappointed to learn, some years ago, that the Jolly Rogers had been retired, and the squadron no longer exists. Has the Flying Aces met the same fate, do you know?

VF-84 was disestablished in 1995 and VF-103 asked for and was given permission to use the "Jolly Roger" name and fin-flash. VF-41 switched over to the F/A-18 aircraft and were redesignated VFA-41 and they are still the "Black Aces".
