Hi Larry, I noticed that your main operation is out west, is there anyone doing similar operations in the east. I am retiring Jan 1, 09, and am looking for something to suppliment my income for next Spring, Summer and Fall, hopefully in the Ohio River Valley territory...I would appreciate any information in that direction....Thanks for your assistance.... Big John

Yes, there are various companies managing most of the Forest Service Campgrounds, National Parks, COE Campgrounds, and jobs are available in many commercial campgrounds and RV Parks. So far, we've worked a summer in the Andirondack Mountains (Lake George, NY), a Christmas season in Florida, a summer season outside of Mt. Rushmore, SD, and the past couple summers in the Sierra NF, CA. Next year, it's the Tahoe NF.

I prefer to refer to these type of jobs as "seasonal" work, but there's a term that's been coined for workers that camp, commonly referred to as "workampers". Do a web search for this term. However, the best source of information and seasonal work listings is a bi-monthly magazine called "Workamper News". Literally thousands of seasonal jobs are listed in this magazine. Check them out at: www.workampernews.com . If you subscribe, let them know 78035 referred you. (I get a free month)

You can also volunteer at parks across the US. A lot of them will provide you a camp site with full hookups and than some also provide a small stipance. I have seen from 5 to 25 dollars a day on that stipance. I do volunteer at National Parks. First is nice to see the parks and areas of the parks not open to the public. Second I figure the campsite with hookups is worth anywhere from 300 to 500 a month so I bank 400 a month when I work as if I was paying for a camp. And than add in the stippance and in some parks also travel pay for using your car at 23 to 56 cents a mile can add up. One park paid for my rv park because I did not want to stay in their campsites. You can go to volunteer.gov/gov on the internet to find those jobs. Also camphosts in a lot of parks and forests are paid a monthly pay. Good luck to you.
