Sponsor Information

Sponsor Information was created by benarrow
I need information on the sponsor program. I served in the Air Force for 6 years. I have some very close comrades and family members who are retired from different branches of the military. While attending a Veterans Day event, I was informed that I could be sponsored by a retired family member and thus be able to use the military campgrounds.
Does anyone know where to get information on the sponsor program?
Thanks

I never heard of it, and personally I wouldn't do it because it takes away a camp space for a person who has spent the time.

Hi Ben, Authorized users may sponsor family members and friends as their guests at Military Campgrounds. I recommend that your sponsor check with the campground manager beforehand. This is a touchy subject in this forum but it is clearly a benefit extended to authorized users at most of the Military Campgrounds.

Note that "Sponsored Guests" are only allowed at a few military campgrounds. If allowed, "Guests" will be mentioned on this website on the campground's information page under the "Authorized Users" category.
Sponsored guests are classified under the "limited use" category and must be authorized by the installation commander. It's not a given, such as active and retired (unlimited category). Even if authorized, this authorization can (and does) change frequently depending on the season and how busy the campground is. Sometimes, the sponsor also needs to be in the campground at the same time as their guests, and sometimes it doesn't matter. As usual, check with the appropriate campground directly for the latest local rule on sponsored guests.

The information found in the links below is the reason you should always check with the campground manager about sponsored guests. The links are displayed in the campground section of this web site and with a lot of searching you can also find it on the Army's Paths Across America web page. The Fort Bliss RV Park is off base making it much easier to use as a guest.
The Admiral Baker RV Park in San Diego is also off base but in this park the sponsor must stay with the guest. We had guests in there a few years ago and the rule was not mentioned when we made the reservations. But it was not a problem because we were all there for a visit anyhow.
The information about guests is out there, you may just have to go and hunt for it. If you cannot find the information here you may have to hunt for the rules for the campground you want to use like I have done here for these two examples.
