Weapons carrying on post/base/etc was created by a Guest
We all know that carrying weapons onto most posts is frowned upon and is usually only permitted if there is hunting on board the station.
BUT there are many of us that are licensed to carry concealed weapons and do so regularly as part of our rving experience across this great land.
my concern is, getting permission from the provost Marshall or Commanding officer at each base we visit, as part of our trip route.
does anyone know of an easier way than contacting each and every base along my route to get permission, to bring a weapon on station and it remain in my custody.
lets face it our roads and rest areas, plus loves, flying j and t/a are not the most secure of places and i have been glad i had a firearm with me.
and so far i have had to contact a CO and ask permission, but still turn it over at the gate to security and hope it doesn't get damaged or disappear or that i can retrieve it in a timely manner when leaving.
bad part is if you stay on post for lets say a week and your seeing the sights around the post, its very much an annoyance to go check out your weapon and recheck it each time you come back to the rv.
any ideas vice not staying on post?
thanks

You bring up an interesting topic. One that I personally am not concerned about. I am a competitive shooter and hunter. I've been participating in handgun competitions for the past two years at Vandenberg AFB. I keep my muzzleloader and rifle in my truck all the time because every opportunity I have I go hog hunting on base. As long as my weapons are unloaded, magazines removed and no ammo is attached to the stock and the weapons are stored out of normal reach or is contained, I can transport them in my vehicle anywhere on base except for a few posted areas. When I start my year long travel, I will take them with me as well as all my reloading equipment. I will be competitive shooting at other military bases I visit.
As for concealed weapons, that's another issue. I don't have CCW permit. I know that not every state will honor other state's permits. Although I've never asked, I doubt any military installation will allow that. We'll have to see if someone else has any knowledge about that.
