Anitque Firearms - Need some help was created by skyking8
I’m sorta at the end of my rope on finding an answer to my problem. Pot Pouri seemed like the only place to put my request for assistance. Hopefully the administrator doesn’t think I’ve gone into left field with this post.
I have inherited from a military member of the family what I think is a rare and antique military cap and ball pistol – perhaps at least 100 years old if not considerably older. I would like to find a value for insurance purposes only- not for sale- a family treasure.
Being that we’re all mainly military oriented, maybe there is someone on the forum that has an interest in antique military firearms and could direct me to a website or other method to get an appraisal of its value. So far, my web browsing has not revealed a legimitate source for that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When everything else fails I end up on eBay. There are 48 items listed in he web page below. May be one will help you

p.s. Sometimes when I find information like this I use it as reference material and head to the local library.

If you have not tried this already it may be of some help in finding out the era and value of the weapon you inherited. If you are near a military installation and they have a military museum you could contact the curator and they might be willing to see you and the weapon or they could give you the reputable name of a person to contact.

Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wy. Has one of the largest military firearms collection I have ever seen. Maybe they can help evaluate your weapon.

I'd recommend contacting the NRA through their web site and contact page. Email all data you have and include pictures if you have them on digits. I bet they'll help

Another place you might contact is the Cowboy Hall and Western Heritage Center in Oklahoma City. This is a major western museum operated by the 17 western states. They may not be able to give you an appraisal but would probably be able to direct you to the people who could.
