VA Benfits Question

VA Benfits Question was created by Big John
Okay, this is probably a long stretch, but I'm going to ask anyway.
Does the VA home buying benefit apply to travel trailers? I know that financing of a travel trailer can be the same as buying a brick and stick house. But was wondering if the same would apply to purchasing a travel trailer. I am thinking getting a larger travel trailer, so thought this might work, especially in the case of the no-money-down portion.....
Like I said, this is just a "stab in the dark". :woohoo:

Don't know the real answer - but I doubt it.
I agree with what you're probably thinking. I too live and travel fulltime in our RV. Our motor home is our ONLY form of housing - it's our house. (I own "wheel estate"). We can also deduct the loan interest - the same as a regular mortgage. But the loan isn't treated as a mortgage. RV's also didn't qualify for the recent tax deduction for new home buyers. The RV also doesn't qualify for the tax deduction for installing solar panels on your "home".
We recently had difficulties obtaining a loan for a new home (RV). Being a fulltimer contributed to the problems, as some loan institutions wouldn't grant a loan because we didn't have another "household". But we finally found the right bank to deal with. Even then, I had to provide them with a firm sticks and bricks address, instead of our mail forwarding address. I used my fathers address. The lending institution treated the loan as if that was our primary residence.
Can you clarify this statement? As far as I know, a house is treated as a "mortgage" loan. A RV (travel trailer) is treated as a "Recreational Vehicle" loan. The RV loan is also considered a luxury, or discretionary purchase.I know that financing of a travel trailer can be the same as buying a brick and stick house.

The travel trailer or other mobile home don't qualify for the home owner loan through VA. It could be that they will let you buy a more permanent mobile home that sets on a lot and don't move too often. You could go to the web site for VA and check it out there.
