"White Knuckle" Drive - Colorado was created by monkey44
Once drove from the north towards Durango, Co on a pretty white-knuckle road along a river canyon and can't remember which route but want to do it again in a couple weeks.
Anyone know which route that is - was looking on the map and am not sure it runs directly out of Durango, but remember we eventually got to Durango using it ... might actually be a bit to the east.

That's US 550, runs from Montrose south through Ouray and Silverton to Durango. Still spectacular in 2008 when we last went through there. Be sure to stop in Silverton for burgers!
oh, and still no guardrails!

Yeah - I remember the 'no guardrails'. Not sure those would ever stop a rig, but it's certainly a 'visual' factor when you're driving it.
Am still debating that drive as my SO has some 'height fright" ... so it might upset her. Will try a few less regal roads first, and ease into it, because it is well worth the drive, the sights along that road.
