Permit to carry in Canada??

I heard 'rumors' we can't carry in Canada at all, even with the proper USA permits, etc.

SO, what about that?? Anyone know for sure, and if we plan to cross the border, what happens?

I know we can 'store' somewhere, but if we don't come back at the same border crossing, then we have a 'location' situation -- shipping it I guess, but not sure the procedure ... We're also aiming for Alaska for part of this trip.

I think the "don't ask, don't tell" recommendation is an invitation into losing your weapons and a lot of other trouble.

I've traveled the ALCAN 3 times talked and never been talked to by the RMCP. I did have a guy try to break in the camper at 2 AM in TOK just after I left the Canadian border. I explained to the gent that it was in his best interest to leave. He did. Not saying its the best idea, but I'm pretty sure that if you aren't carrying on your person and in your home/rv you aren't gonna have a problem.

yes, I agree, that's why I'm asking here. I want to know the 'right' and 'safe' way - not looking to get me in trouble, which is easy enough to do.

"don't ask, don't tell" is good for the states in some areas, but not in a foreign country - even a friendly one - that's really asking for trouble. M44

Monkey, I have been to AK. and also have been to Canada while not going to Ak. Believe me it is against the Canadian law to bring a hand gun into Canada. You can bring long guns with a special permit to hunt. If you are carrying one and plan to come back accross another border crossing, you either have to ship it to someone else at the other crossing location or don't come back across the other border or don't bring the weapon. When going to Ak. I chose not to take the weapon. The other time I went to Canada for another reason I had a weapon but hid it so it could not be found. I got unlucky and was searched (It took about a hr. and we couldn't go close to the coach for that time) but they didn't find the weapon, I was sweating bullets,(Thank GOD). They would have confiscated the gun and I would have been in jail. One other time I went accross and I stopped at the border crossing and checked the hand gun with the RCMP and picked it up on the way back. I planned to come back the same way. I am telling you from personal experience. Don't do it.
