RV Parking Ban in Lake City Florida was created by floridakamper
I just read in the Gypsy Journal that Lake City Florida is now enforcing an RV Parking Ban under pressure from a local campground owner. I've already sent Mayor Stephen M Witt an email explaing that because of this ban I won't be stopping in Lake City to make ANY purchases. His email address is:[email protected]
I hope we all pass up Lake City and especially E-Z Stop RV Park. Pass the word and let them know what you think. Here a link to the story in the Lake City Newspaper. Lake City RV Parking Ban

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

Done!!! I've stopped at the Wal-mart in Lake City many times on my way to central and south Florida, but no more.
What really sucks about this is the owner of the campground using his position on the Lake City Tourist Development Council to push this ordinance. Can you say "conflict of interest"?

There was a big deal about this same issue in Michigan a year or so ago - owner if a CG there got a RV ban passed - RV.net followed it, and another one in Maine which failed due in part to an influx of RV notes to legislators.
When will these CG owners realize that charging a fair price for a clean well-run CG will do more for the bottom line than any statute restricting the RV population - all laws like that do is piss us off.
For that very reason now, in the future Monkey44 will never, ever stay in Lake City again ... and Lake City businesses will never get a penny of my money.

I think there was a similar ban in Reno that got reversed because of RVers voicing their opposition and avoiding the area. That's why I think we should respectfully voice our opinion to the elected leader of Lake City. It's certainly their right to pass laws they think benefit their community and our right to spend our dollars where we are welcome. And wouldn't it be justice if the owner of E-Z Stop RV Park experienced a dramatic drop in his occupancy because of him pressuring law enforcement to crack down on Wal-Mart RV parking.

Actually, there is NO ordinance in Lake City prohibiting overnight parking at Walmart. There IS a Columbia County Florida Land Development Regulation (zoning) and THAT is the regulation number that is posted on the sign. The violator would be Walmart, NOT the person parked in their lot.
Legally, if you were cited by the police, and you returned to court to fight the citation, you would probably win.

Sounds like fun -
Park at Walmart, get a ticket, plan a return trip to Lake City at some future date to fight that ticket. hmmmmmmm
Would rather skip Lake City altogether on my travel route, and that's the plan ... :
