I've placed a very well done brochure on "Geotagging" Safety, published by the U.S. Army on the website.

Geotagging is how many cameras and cell phones embed the GPS Coordinates of where the photo was taken. This is something you may not want.

The file is located here.

Guess I'm curious why anyone would care where a photo was taken, or the fact that we were there when it was taken??

It can't be a security issue, because you (we) are generally not there any more by the time someone looks at it ...

Lots of people also give travel plans and ongoing travel updates on sites (home pages, facebook etc) ... so, it's not 'projecting' any info that anyone can get from a variety of unprotected sources.

SO, maybe one of you guys can enlighten me ... why it matters.

Okay - just read the docs larry linked here ...

And understand AD should not send data that gives away location when on a mission - or even other data that could be used to source when and where specific AD personnel are located at any specific time ..

Aside from that tho, am I missing something ?? Some other reason why a retired or civilian should limit 'embedding' this info???

I'm thinking, not much of a reason, except for the fact that it could establish info that a hacker could use, especially if you attached other info when you send the photo, as did the guy from that TV show that established when he was home or left for work. Excellent oppertunity to break in to his home. But for the average, probably nothing more than showing where you where at when you took the photo. But I certainly wouldn't want that info out if I was AD, and say in a foreign country. That's my simply opinion..
