SKY LIGHT LEAK was created by ResQChief9
Been in Afghanistan for a year and heading to Baghdad after this short break. My Class A RV has been covered in my driveway for the year I've been gone. Upon returning home, I find the sky light over the tub has sprung a leak (large leak) and the wood area around the skylight appears rotten. The carpet on the ceiling in the bathroom is stained and molded. I was able to make quick repairs (tube of yuck) to hopefully hold until I return again. Has anybody ever experienced something like this?

Yep. Had one. Needed to remove the skylight and reseal everything. It's not difficult to do, but time consuming to get the original caulking off. If you have a rubber roof you need to be careful scraping stuff off.

Don't have an issue with the wood beams, mine is aluminum. Ceiling materal was stained around the leak, but managed to get it out with a carpet cleaner that I rented. I did the rest of the ceilings and carpet while I had it so as to get my $$ worth from the rental.

Had a similiar leak on our previous coach. Got the leak fixed by a factory tech at a rally. The stains on the ceiling were another thing. I used a product called Awesome. It can be used full strength or can be diluted. The mixing schedule is on the bottle. Also had a leak up front by the driver's seat which stained the floor carpet to dark brown. Awesome also took that out. This product cost $1.00 per bottle and comes in a hand spray bottle. It can only be purchased at Dollar Tree stores. It definitely is an awesome product. I buy several at a time, for $1.00 each, and keep them in the coach and in the house here in Oklahoma.

One problem is if you have mold. You MUST get the mold killed and removed. If not the mold spores can spread and cause a real health hazzard for you and your family.

I second the motion on that "Awesome Cleaner" I buy it by the case at the dollarTree store. My co-pilot clean the shower and floor with it, Yep is Awesome.

About the Sky light leak.....You don't have to remove it if you don't want. Just clean around the edge and remove any lump from previus caulking, Then pour around a self leveling caulk that you can buy at any RV place. It will mold around the edges and stick like clue. Just make sure the area is dry and clean.
