Web pages - slow loading

Web pages - slow loading was created by monkey44
I often go to another RV web page -- and very often it loads slowly, or not at all. And, sometimes very fast -- and I'm not sure why it does that ...
I do frequently "clean" my computer, and don't know if that has an effect, but wonder if that has anything to do with pages loading quicker -- I mean after I clean it ...
I'm pretty CPU-stupid, so don't know if it's something I do or something on web-pages that makes them faster or slower at different times -- can any web-smart guys commment on this ... thanks

Most likely, it's out of your immediate control. There's many factors affecting how fast web pages load. It also depends on the web site and how it's established.
This site, for example, relies heavily on a database for most of the information. If many users are trying to access information at the same time (I've seen 78 users at once), things will slow down. Hacking attempts on a website will also slow the site down, although the hacking may not be effective. Some web servers "cache" their information which will speed up their site.
Many web sites share a single server. They won't even know who the other web sites are. Depending on how it's setup, 40 or more web sites can be using the same server. If some of these web sites are busy at the same time, all of them will slow down. This can be the difference between paying $10 a month verses $200 a month to run a web site.
There's also the Internet itself. If you tracked your connection, you'd be surprised where your connection is going. For example, you may be in Los Angeles and trying to access a web site in Phoenix. Depending on many factors, your connection may go from L.A. to Seattle, to Las Vegas, to New York, to Chicago, to Florida, then finally to Arizona.
Let the owners of the web site know (including me) if their site is constantly slow. They may not be able to immedaitely do anything, but they want to be made aware of the slow performance.

Thanks Larry -- that makes sense ... busy website would slow things down. But my web knowledge is not so great, and I'd rather ask have an answer like this than wonder if I can do or did something on my end to slow things down. I'll send email to the tech for that site ... although last night I couldn't get on it at all ... matter of fact, this site loads pretty fast most of the time, only occasionally does it load slowly, and even then it's still pretty fast -- only minimally do I not get here and see what I want to see ... you do a great job here.
