Don't know where it is on that engine, but whining is probabaly/possible low PS fluid ... so check that first when you find it.

SHould be easy to locate the PS filler then just track it down to the pump. But I agree that you need to check the fluid level. Might be all you need to do is add some PS fluid.

al ready did that.. it whines when its in park grrrrrrrrr my son in law ..who is a handy auto mechanic is going to look at it on Sunday, windsheild fluid does not squirt either found that out when i tried to remove the big bug gut splat right in the line of sight.. All i gotta do is buy the parts and cook dinner not to bad of a deal.. he also does after market radios and alarms he will be pimping my ride. However Ill be on my own when i head home to SC.. so any suggestions on a good repair book would be helpful..I kinda know my way around under the hood

Any chevy 3/4 or larger truck book for the year of your vehicle should do the trick. Checker sells them as does some other parts stores.
