TV Antennas was created by fiatspider79
Well it finally happened. A healthy wind yesterday finally broke the head off my antique Winegard bat-wing TV antenna. I will either get a new head and bolt it to the existing frame or go with something else. I am looking at the Winegard Roadstar RS-2000 omni-directional antenna to avoid all of the cranking up and down.
Can anyone compare these two antennas?
With digital coming in next February I am thinking that the omni-directional would be a better bet since it helps little to turn the directional antenna as digital is either signal or no signal while analog will get worse and worse until all you have is snow.
Is there another option out there for over the air TV?

Not sure you'll need the bat-wing that much with digital. My brother and I both hooked up our digital boxes to the front TV in our coaches. The picture improved greatly. He had not even cranked up his bat-wing at the time and still got as good a picture as I did with the antenna up.

We got new digital TVs and are aware that the picture is always perfect--or it isn't there at all. Out in the boonies our choices will be limited to what the antenna will pick up. At Appomattox, VA the last two months we could get about a dozen TV stations (albeit quite snowy) and on the digital side we got about half that number. This whole switchover is going to be a wake up call for a lot of people not in a major TV market and out on the fringe.

We've tried out our new digital TV a lot in the6 months. Without raising our TT antenna we get excellent reception on the new, digital channels. I have begun letting the TV auto scan digital channels first and if we get a few channels; I don't even raise the antenna to try regular on-air channels. Right now at King's Bay (free cable) we get more digital on-air channels & a better selection, & super picture quality, than using the cable at the site. We like PBS and it's ALWAYS been avail (new digital, on-air) in every locale we've been in. Never pot up the old bat-wings at all.
