Solar venting - cargo trailer

Sometimes I take my cargo trailer with me, sometimes not, depending on how long and where I'm heading. But when I return, even with a roof-vent open, the inside can be hot - particulary in the summer months. So, tech wizards, is this do-able?

Trailer has a battery for lights, etc. Want to install a small solar panel on the roof, hook it up to a vent fan and a timer, and then have the vent fan come on during the day when the solar panel can charge -- and run for a while venting the interior.

I'd like to leave things in the trailer that don't like heat too much - like some electronics -- CPU and scanner, etc -- but am afraid to do it in the heat for any length of time. Also spare gas can -- but gas smells up the inside unless you open the doors for a while. So, what do you tech guys think about this possibility ... with a timer set so the fan does not outrun the charging rate.
