Do all these set-ups for TV need 110v to watch and run the equipment?? Or, can you guys watch it with just batteries and tne inverter ...

And if invreter, how long do batteries last watching a TV ... how many hours per (some rigs have two batteries) Seems like alot a drain with the receiver and a TV running ... but I don't know if it takes much power to run all this solid-state electronics ...

I had an LCTV that I got a couple years ago. It was 120 VAC thru gator and 12VDC to the TV. I ran it for about 6 hrs on my 2 6V deep cell batteries before the picture started to fade. I have also ran my newer 120 VAC Digital tuner LCTV for about the same time thru the inverter. I guess it depends on how much the TV draws, and how nuch battery power you have. This is just from my own experience.

What I'm thinking here is a couple hours watching something specific ... like a sports game, but I don't watch alot so it's not continuous.

Right now, I have only one RV battery, but am getting ready to rig a second in-line because my next few months will be without power pretty often - heading into the national parks for some summer camping.

I'm not thinking TV all the time, like all evening and all day. But, sometimes we don't have CTV and I'd like to run it off battery for short periods - especially in the evening when a generator might disturb others. So, if 5-6 hours works, that would be all I'd ever need. Don't like to run a generator just to watch the tube ...

Monkey, with one or two bats, it would be a great help for you to either have solar, or a small Honda gen with inverter, like the e2000 or 1000. They are quiet and don't distrube anyone. They will run for up to 12 hr. on one gallon of gas. They will charge your one or two bats while you watch TV. I have the e2000 which I use on my MH at night when dry camping. It won't charge my 4 bat bank but will keep it from discharging. There are a lot of options out there but this is what works for us.

Yup -- was looking at the e2000 as a back-up when no power available ... just wondered at night when the generator might bother others -- so looks like two batteries and the Honda will do it fine. Generator will run the AC too.

Another Q about this ...

If you just have an antenna, and no satellite service, so get local only - what does that usually give you ... like basic CTV gives about 50 channels ... but I'm wondering if only over-air antenna is it only basic ten or so, like the big networks only ... FOX, CBS, ABC etc ...
