Interior Lights and 7-pin connector

If you disconnect the RV battery, and disconnect the 30A power cord ... then plug the RV connector cord into the 7-pin plug, should the interior lights on the unit work?

All lights on the truck work, and all fuses are intact.

I lost my running lights - have no test light to check the 7-pin to see if it's malfunctioning.

But, with battery and 30A cord disconnected, and the 7-pin plugged in, I still have no interior lights.

So, if the interior lights should work with only 7-pin power, then I know it's the plug (or truck wires), and not some failure in the unit wiring.

Does this make sense, and am I correct about the plug?

If I'm right, I can drive out somewhere without the rig and fix the plug -- if it's the unit, then I have to rig up and then find an RV place now, and most are two weeks or more for service appt. Lot easier to just drive out without the rig and fix the plug if I knew that was it.

What a hassle ...

Since the trailer grounds through the ball, it may just be you need to take a lap around the block. But since the truck is the power source, if it were mine, I'd start at the truck and check the socket there.If I had power through the socket on the truck and I knew that the pins were making contact with the trailer plug, then I'd take the lap around the block.....or just connect a single wire between the truck frame and the trailer frame ( a wire with 2 "alligator clips" will do the trick). After we got this truck (new in Dec 2006) I discovered that Chevy didn't get a good connection on the left turn signal wire to the 7 pin socket. It's easy enough to fix, but it would have been a pain if I didn't stop and think about the signal/power flow.

Nope - this is a TC - sits on the truck and plugs into a front bed-plug like the 5'ers.

Everything worked fine, and suddenly quit - but a lap around the block won't do it -- I drove couple hundred miles in the slow lane during the daytime just to get here ...

So, will find someone tomorrow to check it -- I'm so electrical-stupid that I'm always afraid I'll damage something else trying to figure it out.

Good luck....it's gotta be something simple. But you aren't going to get far without a tester.

One last thing...is there a circuit breaker in the TC that the "pig-tail" runs to? I should have been clued in when you said somthing about the "interior lights". If that "pig-tail" runs the camper lights (internal and external) then there may be more fuses/circuit breakers inside one of the cabinet doors. Maybe somewhere near the converter.

Yes - checked all fuses ... one panel inside converter, and two panels on the truck. All okay.

I'm sitting here in the rain right now, but when it stops I'll check all connections again, and if that don't do it, will rig it up and drive somewhere and have someone look at it.

I hate being electical-stupid !!! :(
