While very scenic, US 212 in eastern Montana has a lot of construction and we recommend avoiding it. There are stretches of construction between the Little Bighorn Battlefield exit off I-90 and Belle Fourche, SD. Towards the eastern part there is a large stretch of oiled gravel that, if wetted down by one of the thunderstorms frequenting the area, will really do a number on your rig.
This route is a popular 'shortcut' that cuts about 50 miles off the interstate route. Ain't worth it at this time. And no, this construction is NOT listed on the DOT website for MT.
