We haven't used the rest stops or trucks stops or Walmarts YET. Are they safe? However, we are racing home from AZ to FL & don't want to pay $40 to stop overnight. Any recommendations or advice is welcome! Thanks!

We have been using Walmarts for years without any problems. Be advised that some municipalities (not walmart) have limited the overnight parking within the limits of their authority. We have downloaded a listing of all the North American Walmart locations from the Yahoo/Groups website; they do require that you sign up, but it’s free! To obtain the most recent listing, by state and Canadian province that allow/do not allow overnight parking, go to:
groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/walmartrving...rt%20Parking%20List/
We also use casinos and small city parks, Cabela’s, etc. We have used truck stops, but . . . they can be loud, so we normally shy away from them.
Enjoy your travels,
John

As an addendum to my post to rvdreamers regarding Walmart parking; this was recently posted to the Yahoo/Walmartrving website. Lots of good information!

Every year we travel from Joppa, Maryland to Houston and Dallas to Shreveport, Louisiana and I used the 24 Hour Walmart/ SAMS CLUB on our 4500 mile trip. Once I see a RV ALREADY PARKED I just move right in. Once I parked next to a couple of trailers that they off loaded with goods in it for Sams club. Slept like a baby as they worked all night long. I have only stayed at a RV park a few times...

I have used walmart parking lot several times over the last year. Recently I went to one west of Jacksonville Fl with signs posted "no over night parking". I decided to go in and ask anyway. The security guy there said I could as long as I parked my RV by the garden side. Goes to say, it never hurts to ask "nicely". :-)
