The most recent update of Norton Anti-Virus is INCORRECTLY identifying the "Trojan.Gen" within the Directory software. Norton will then quarantine the file and prevent you from using it. This is a FALSE-POSITIVE detection from Norton.

You can recover the Directory software within Norton. You may need to read Norton's help file. On my version of Norton, I can recover the quarantined Directory software from within Norton. On my version of Norton, this option is located under the ADVANCED – COMPUTER PROTECTION – QUARANTINE options. In addition, you'll need to "Exempt" this file from being quarantined in the future.

Norton Antivirus uses "heuristics" to try and "guess" if there is a virus (or Trojan). In this case, they are wrong. I scan the Directory software with an online service that uses over 27 different anti-virus programs. I assure you the Directory software is 100% virus, Trojan, and malware free. I've notified Norton of their False Positive and sent them the file in question. They are currently researching the issue.

I apologize for this inconvenience, but I can't control what other companies do. Norton is the ONLY program currently doing this.

I'll say this about Norton - they're quick!

I just received confirmation that they made a mistake. Here's what they said:

Upon further analysis and investigation we have verified your submission and, as such, the detection(s) for the file.

The updated detection(s) will be distributed in the next set of virus definitions, available via LiveUpdate or from our website.

I see by the answer that the Norton Anti Virus that incorrectly identifies the web site as a threat and blocks the program from operating was supposedly corrected about a month or two ago. Norton decided they knew better than everyone else and has again blocked the site as a danger to the computer system. I contacted Norton Anti Virus and was told to submit a form to change the designation. Others may be having the same problem and their access is BLOCKED as well. Could you help us all.

NOTE - this problem is with the Directory SOFTWARE - not this WEBSITE.

This same problem happened last year. Thanks for letting Norton know. They use a method to identify threats that "guesses" based on certain code sequences. One of the programming libraries used in the Directory software makes Norton "guess' that there is a problem. You can tell Norton to "ignore" the Directory software from scanning.
