Website Directions Need Improvement

I do not know who composes the directions that are listed on the website for a particular CG. Perhaps it is the MWR campground facility or an individual RVer who has been there. In either case, I really appreciate that directions are there. However, with respect to the security gate info it is lacking. When those gates are not open 24/7, an alternate gate needs to be specified in those directions. As an example, here's one for Mountain Home AFB. You MUST come in the commercial gate (Closed Sunday and after hours). Large RV's must enter through the commercial gate.

How can I MUST come in the commercial gate if it is closed on Sunday and what is the definition of a Large RV? I've had way too many turn around experiences in the last few months where I drove up to a closed commercial gate. And that ain't simple in a MH with a toad!

That negative experience is starting to give me an attitude problem. A couple more of those and I'm going to say the hell with it and show up at the main gate. If I have to turn around anyway then what difference does it make which gate that happens at?

I go back to my very first sentence in this post. With respect to the required entry gate on a 24/7 basis, perhaps the right people to provide this info is the Provost Marshal's office or the campground host if there is one.

Well, the issue of which gate to use at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD has been solved. It has been determined via the MILITARY POLICE GUARD AT MAIN GATE that as long as you can maneuver and fit thru, you can use the MAIN GATE. We purposely asked today on our way to the PX (without the 5er) and got the above answer....so we checked out the FamCamp, got a site, paid for it and went back to where we were park, got the 5er and the dog. We are now nicely parked on a great site....Am not ready to post a review, yet, but did want to let you all know the decision has been made. ;)

I think it would be a win, win if MWR Directors recognized this website as the most comprehensive source of info for military campers and took it upon themselves to review and update info posted here. I've noticed that the NAS Jacksonville campground manager has in the past given updates on things like new washers and dryers.

Since we have a 45' class A and always a tow we call the military campground the day before we are scheduled to arrive; no matter how many times we may have been at the campground things can change as we have all found that out. It would be labor intensive to keep the directions and entry requirements on this website up to date as I use them as a guideline but not gospel for our arrival date.

Getting current and correct information to list has ALWAYS been a challenge. That's one reason this website was developed over 7 years ago. Getting information from the various MWR is almost impossible. While it's MUCH better than it was 7 years ago, many don't respond to our request for information. Most don't tell us when anything has changed (directions, prices, policies, etc.). Luckily, a FEW do keep us updated with the latest information. It is getting better, with more MWR staff keeping us informed. Many times, it's the camp host that is keeping us informed.

From the beginning, the idea was to have a USER SUPPORTED website. I felt with tens of thousands of website users visiting the various military campgrounds, they can provide back the latest information or changes. This plan is working fairly well, as over 80% of the updated information I get is from website and Directory software users. While there will still be errors, at least it something.

All users - when you find something wrong or outdated on the website or the Directory software, please send me the correct and updated information. It's the only way we're going to be able to continue providing the most current and complete information possible. Thanks!

Experienced closed on Sunday commercial gate at Warner Robbins AFB as most are. Simply went to another gate. They were great, they gave me a map and directions. The directions on the web site were very accurate. Then one of them said just follow me I will lead you to the FAM. Maybe just because I'm a happy old. LOL!! I agree a quick call the day before can make things simple. Things can change almost overnight anywhere. This site is the best thing going and I agree it is up to us to let Larry know if a change needs to be made. Happy RVing ... Clarence
