I know the title is a bit nondescript, but this is the program that has opened a few AF chow halls to retirees in the last two or three years. I am very familiar with the program at Patrick AFB since we stay there a lot and enjoy the inexpensive and nutritous meals in Patricks great chow hall. The attached article pulled from a Air Force Association newsletter yesterday details the expansion of the program. With expansion ( hopefully) comes the availability of more chow halls to we hungry retirees across the country. Pls keep in mind that I am only a messenger on the matter - not a spokesman or expert.

Next Phase Of Food Transformation Initiative

"The Air Force has awarded a contract to Sodexo of Gaithersburg Maryland to execute the second phase of the Food Transformation Initiative (FTI) at seven installations announced service personnel on August 6th. (2012) Sodexo will begin FTI operations at Barksdale, Beale, Dyess, Eglin, Ellsworth, Warren, and Vandenburg AFB's. FTI enables us to apply industry best practices and expertise to our food service operations and ultimately provide a better dining experience for our airmen, said MGen A.J. Stewart, Air Force Personnel Center Commander at JBSA Randolph TX. This includes expanded hours of operation at our dining facilities and a larger variety of healthier menu choices and beverage options. "
As a side light many of you know that AFTI phase 1, was started at Elmendorf, Fairchild, Little Rock, MacDill, Patrick and Travis in Oct 2010. It will be interesting to see if the phase 2 bases allow retirees in their facilities. Perhaps those of you near them can check and report back to us. This announcement did not report the start dates for FTI at the individual bases so individual field reports are our best source for that info.
