I think the 30 day limit at some parks is crazy if there are empty sites. Here at Lackland you can only stay 30 days and then leave the base for 24 hours even if half the sites are empty. I am going to write the commanders web site and ask about this since most let you stay longer especially if there are empty sites. Corpus Christi which is a very nice place to stay at the Navy Base let you stay 90 days and there are reservations. It has a long pier and is only a couple miles from Padre Island. Cheaper price than here too. Just spend money to clean your rig when you leave.

As one who moves about (travels a lot) I like the stay rules be it 14 or 30 days. Gives more an opportunity to use the facilities and visit the area. Some places you have to move/rotate every 14 days and relocating within a 1/4 mile is not a real problem.

Have been to some where retired homesteaders have taken up residence and feel that the park is just theirs. Those of us who pass through or visit the area are infringing on "their" territory.

With you 100% JJnLilly on the 14 to 30 day stay rules. We have a recreational vehicle to travel not sit at a campground for months at a time. We are at Eagle Hammock for a month and doubt we will do it again as there is just not enough to do in this area esp. when you have been here before. A lot of folks will be here from 30 days to 4 months and some longer, so sad to say this is a homestead park now too. The rules at Pelican Roost are a guideline that all FamCamps in the south should use so all of us get a chance to stay at many FamCamps. We are trying different FamCamps in S.C. and La. this winter travel season so looking forward to finding different places to visit that also have the 2 week rule and able to extend if sites available. My thought would be if a long term stay is needed then stay at one of the many private campgrounds that let you stay for the winter as compared to the few FamCamps so we all have a chance to visit for 2 weeks on a military installation.

X2 on this lamsan. Pelican Roost does it right.

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

We camp-hosted at a high turn-over FamCamp for several years (Ellsworth AFB, near Rapid City/Black Hills). Allowing extended stays can be very problamatic - just because there are ten sites available at 10:00 am, does not mean there will be ANY available at 3:00 pm! While we did allow extensions in May and early June; from June 15th through early September we did not. Everyone should have equal opportunities, which extension do not allow for.

We've traveled all over USA and stayed in a lot of MCGs. It seems to us that the ones that allow the longest stays are also the least maintained.

For some reason, long-term campers seem to care less about clean or cluttered sites. And, staff seems less inclined to keep the MCGs maintained well.

Ft. Polk area looks more like "Dogpatch" than a MCG, for example. We went in, paid for two nights as we'd planned a short stay-over to shop and rest on the way to Texas, and left the next morning. Dogs running and barking - tight sites, and generally a messy grounds, cables running all over from one RV to another (TV cables I think) and the RV's looked like they hadn't moved in five years.

And Ft Meade was a mess too - high fees and so messy and cluttered, we stopped once several years ago, and never went back. And quit going to MacDill in winter months because if how it's run - and it has lots of return and stay forever RV's - it allows six months, but lots of RV's look like they been parked for years in the same spot.

Then, Lackland AFB w/30 day limit, and all sites are clean and neat. Panama City, 60 day, and spotless, King's Bay 60 day, and spotless.
