Thank you Monkey44 for being pissed off because I have my own opinions. I guess your opinion is the only one that counts and no one else is allowed to have one. I get pissed off with people like that! I have my opinion and you have your opinion and guess what? We are both right!

I guess I'm just a wierd duck. I just think it's great that I can go to a place like Pelican Roost and pay $21 for a site on the water. That's a dollar more than I paid last year. That's my benefit.

There's still some military campgrounds that provide the "benefit". Pelican's Roost is one of them. However, other military campgrounds charge over $50 a night. To me, where's the benefit?Frank A. wrote: I guess I'm just a wierd duck. I just think it's great that I can go to a place like Pelican Roost and pay $21 for a site on the water. I'll probably get in trouble again for using the word "commercial" as in campgrounds. So be it. I agree that $50 is too much to pay for a military campground and also think it is too much to pay for any campground. The $50 is probably half of what you would pay in a "commercial" campground in the same area. I just wouldn't travel to that area. I'm retired from the Air Force and enjoy my "benefits" as much as anyone else. I just don't want to get in the mindset that I'm entitled. There's too much of that going on in today's civilian world.

Frank: I believe you misread me, or maybe I mis-wrote it somehow. Maybe you canexplain exactly what I said that made you upset with me or single me out here - in fact, we said the same thing, sorta
I like our MCGs, and all the benefits we earned - I believe earned and entitled mean two different things.
But, I also believe comparing MCGs to civilian CG's has no place in our world. We should operated the MCGs at a price that allows us to enjoy that benefit, whatever it costs and comparing it to KOA for example, is what pissed me off - if we need to raise fees because the MCG needs repairs or needs WIFI or something, that's a part of operation, then do it.
If MWR continues to raise the price simply because it can, and then uses those funds elsewhere (like golf), that borders on unfair. And justifying the price because KOA is higher makes no sense.
Base fuel is another one - why should it matter what civilian stations charge?
Our commissary now is under fire too - another great benefit, which some are now considering removing, or at least making it off-limits to retired military. I'd rather pay a little more, and shop on base, than fight the public and the prices in civilian markets. It's not about anything cheap or free, it's about safety and convenience in both venues - the MCG and the commissary.

Monkey 44, I'm not upset with you or anyone else. I just thought this forum was the place to voice my opinions on things whether you or anyone else agrees with them or not. Like I said, we all have our opinions. Most people may not agree with you but that's life. In our mind we are all right. The only reason I singled you out is the same as I did here, to identify you as the person who I'm responding to. And now to the big question. What you said to get me so upset. I didn't get upset just responded to your statement. You said: "Comparing our MSG prices to civilian prices really, really, pisses me off!" To me, you were telling me that you was "really, really" pissed off at me. I didn't know what else to think. Take care.
