Getting meds on the road

Hi all,

What's the best way to get scrips on the road when you're out more than 90 days? I usually get'em from a base near home but they'll only "transfer" a Rx once per year...? I know the mail order service is an alternative, but it's only a max of 90 days too. Is it a good idea to have the scrips mailed to a military installation campground to get them there?
Appreciate any advice from those who've figured this out... :)

Thanks,
Jim

We've been "playing" with this issue for years, and are finally satisfied with Express Scripts cause you can give them a different address every 90 days, if you need to....You just need to call them with it when ordering the refill...This is for our "maintenance" meds....we use Walmart for the "one time" Rx, i.e. anti-bionics.....Hope this helps... ;)

Use Expressripts too. They are good about address changes and you can do it on-line too. Be sure to change the address for each person on the account though. Learned the hard way changing one does not change all.

It depends on how many days you are going to be out, if it is only 90 days or close then why not just use the transfer method and then ask for new Rx's when you get home . That would take you for 6 mo. If you plan your Rx's to pick them up just before you leave home. That is what my wife does . If you can get your meds from the VA you can change your temporary address with them as often as you need to, that is how I do it.

Since we're on the road "full-time", we also use Express Scripts and get a 1-year prescription from the doc. The drugs are mailed to our "legal domicile" (mail forwarding service) in TX. The mail, including the drugs, are forwarded to wherever we want, when we want. We usually get our 90-day replacement about 30 days before we run out. The problem isn't the prescriptions. It's just a matter of managing where and when our mail will be forwarded.

We use NAS Fallon for our regulsr drugs and our Dr writes each for 1 year. The base has always given us a "vacation allowance" for 6 months each fall as we spend 5 months in Mexico each winter in an RV park 40 miles north of Puerto Vallarta. Many of our drugs are available down there but we feel more comfortable getting them here. We use Walmart for the 1 time prescriptions, and wnen in Mexico one of the big Mexican chains or Costco in PV. Some of the wifes drugs are prohibitivly expensive even in Mexico, and TFL doesn't pay for drugs or outpatient, only inpatient treatment down there. When back home, we are usually around Fallon often enough to pick them up every 90 days.
We fulltimed from 2005 to 2009, and we then used Express Scripts, and I usually had no problems but as Linda has RA and requires several different drugs, she often had problems, and would have to make several calls to them. They also would give a "vacation allowance" when we went to Mexico, but you are only a;llowed one each year.
