I thought I had read at onetime, that active and retired military, could get a site before DOD civilian and contractors. Is this no longer true?
We called Ft Meade RV CG and requested a back-in site (which are cheaper) for 5 days. We were told they only had one for 2 days, but we could get a pull through(more expensive). I know FT Meade has many DOD and Contractor homesteaders from the years we have used their campground. Our family lives in the area and we stay there when we visit MD. I thought as the rules stand, they would have to move someone, either a homesteader, or DOD/Contractor, to open a site. I really don't feel it is fair, that we will be spending much more for a site, when we are "guest" using the park for Recreation, and the campgrounds are called RV parks.

It is all about MONEY!!!! they are not going to ask a cash cow who has been there forever to move for 5 days for you when they can receive a monthly check from the homesteaders sometimes for years. sorry but most are not thinking about the traveling member.

IF you really want to do something, file an official complaint locally ... after the CO responds, you can take that information along with the official RV park rules and send to the the IG office in DC. They are required to investigate all complaints and respond.
Most people just forget about it as too much hassle - that's how it got like it is - Mead is one, and MacDill another, for example.

Thanks Monkey !! I will certainly do this when we get to FL and I have more WI-FI time. I am getting low on my AT&T wifi, but will be writing later. Though I will not be benefiting when I am down south, I feel we must complain for the good of all the Military RVer'z I feel the rules were made for a reason, and I am tired of people taking advantage of a good thing. The homesteading and not leaving room for the ones who want to enjoy there benefits they worked for. What really makes me mad is the money they knot heads are reaping with the RV lot rent being lower than the allowance they are getting..

This is a very good question and have found the answer has changed over the years and not every MCG uses the same protocol. You would hope the campground manager or staff making the reservations would know the answer but that is not always the case. I too believe the almighty dollar has reared its ugly head as we have been told by some of the most popular MCG's staff in the southeast they are told to keep sites full however they can. Please share the complaint response here for those of you who file one about protocol as it will probably be an eyeopener for all of us.
