No Awnings Open @ Sea Mist in Pictures?

This might seem like a silly question but I am going to ask it:

What reason would there be to not open your awning at the Sea Mist (Dam Neck, VA) campgrounds?

Yes, I am new to RV'ing and this will be my first rip to an RV site (did a few dry camps in fields). All the photos I have seen online of the Sea Mist RV park in Dam Neck, VA and not a one has their awning open. I understand that shade is not abundent but yet nobody seems to have their awnings out. I ask because my wife can tolerate only so much direct sun exposure but manages okay in the heat (80 degrees +) if there is shade. I am gonna guess the sea breeze is too strong? Does anyone have any reason, suggestions or ideas?

Sea Mist might be the same as Pelican Roost at Naval Station Mayport. The wind can pick up almost without notice and storms blow in quickly. If you leave your awning unattended you can have damage in an instant. At least at Mayport it's safe to put the awning out when you're outside but put it up when you leave or go in. I'm sure someone that frequents Sea Mist will have better info but the wind is always an issue in coastal areas.

Indeed it is the sea breeze picking up and possibly blowing into a stronger wind than the awning can sustain danger that keeps most of the awnings retracted (especially when the rig is unattended). However, either through good design or dumb luck, the fishbone pattern of parking in the new section provides half the sites with shade cast by the rigs themselves in the noon to evening time. So there isn't a need to deploy the awning.
