My wife and I are planning a cross country trip with our two grandsons and our son-in-law this summer. We recently lost our daughter to cancer. Instead of traveling in an RV or pulling one we would like to use a large family tent. Most places have no power at the tent sites so we were wondering if they would allow us to set up the tent in an RV space to have power. Another thought is that are the Honda generators or other types quiet enough to not bother people. Just curious so we can plan. We are open to suggestions to plan a NC to Alaska trek on a budget. We have a pop up that we go in now but we don't want to pull it across the US.

The small hondas a re very quiet, but not big enough to run an AC unit. Would be good for lights and maybe a small refrig, fan etc. As to being able to use in a tent campground that will vary by the place you are at. I have seen vans with ac's plugged in, I know some of the small motorcycle trailers have a small 5000btu ac hooked up but I dont know which campsites will allow that. I am speaking mainly of commercial ones. Look at KOA.com and you can get a good idea of whats allowed there.

Many of the famcamps do have places for tents but don't like the tents on the RV spaces. Best thing to do is to call several of the sites you plan on visiting and ask. Most are very helpful.
