Verizon "Out of Contract" Discount was created by wb4zit
I had not heard about this until tonight so I thought I would post it for those uninformed as me
Apparently Verizon has been offering this discount since last November to those "out of contract" who did not wish to upgrade their smart phone right away. But it does not happen automatically. You have to either get it through their website or call them. Am I the only one who did not know about this?
I just logged into my Verizon account and a popup window came up that said something to the effect of "Your 2 year contract is up. You can Upgrade your phone or get a $25 a month Discount.
I clicked Discount and it popped up both mine and my wife's phones and gave me a $50 dollar a month discount off of my bill.....$25 for each smart phone out of the 2 year contract.
Apparently this is for smart phones out of the 2 year contract on the More Everything Plan with a 10 GB or more data plan. I believe I read somewhere that standard phones out of contract can get a $10 a month discount. I do not know about out of contract smart phones on a LESS than 10 GB data plan.
Anyway if you are on Verizon with a More Everything Plan, 10 GB or more data plan, and one or more smart phones that are past the 2 year contract you might want to check with Verizon for a $25 discount for each phone that meets those conditions. I don't know about the rest of you guys but for me $50 a month is nothing to sneeze at. Oh yeh...and it did not affect my 15% military vet discount I get on my data plan.
If everyone already knew about this then I apologize for the long post.......and phooey on you for not telling me earlier.
P.S. Got mad at DIRECTV over their Regional Sports Fee and called them today with a few choice words. Got handed off to a Customer Retention Specialist who gave me a $15 a month discount on my bill for 12 months and told me to call back in a year and they would do it again. Wahoo!!!!

The discount is related to the fact that for 2 years you have been paying a monthly fee for that phone you got for ‘free’ (or at a substantial discount) at the beginning of your contract. You had to take the 2 year deal so the company got paid for the phone. Ain’t nobody going to give you ‘free’ stuff for real.
Consumer Reports has said for years that everybody should ask for a discount on their bills after the 2 year contract ends regardless of which company your service is with. I’ve done this with Verizon and with Sprint – successfully I might add. It would now appear that Verizon at least is being honest and offering it without you having to beg for it. In the past, I was able to negotiate the amount of the discount with both Sprint and Verizon.
Regardless of what company you have service with, if you got a ‘free’ phone at the start of your plan and the contract is now up and you don’t have a need or desire to upgrade to a newer phone, then by all means, ask your company for a bill reduction. If they say no, then change companies; or at the very least tell them you will and see if that doesn’t bring them around to giving you the discount that you rightfully deserve.
I'm switching to Consumer Cellular later this month. I have to buy the phone up front, but then I don't have a 2-year contract and my monthly bill will be cut in half, my minutes will be increased 3 fold, my data count increased 25%, and they use AT&T towers. Consumer Reports rates them #2 overall, ahead of all the others (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) And there customer service is rated second to none.
