New to rving, military campgrounds. Usually carry a handgun on the interstates and when driving generally. How do you handle your firearms when the campground policy is no firearms? Can you check them w/local police or mps or whatever? Thanks, rick

generally dont tell anyone about any weapons. Unless you have a reason to be searched no one will know. I generally dont use milcamps but have never been asked about weapons when I have. Just keep secured. How you declare will be up to you.

Mort of the bases I've visited RECENTLY ask if we have any WEAPONS or contraband during our 100% ID check. I suppose when you declare your weapons, they will probably send you to the armory to check them in.

You ABSOLUTELY need to buy this book: Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States . Rifles and shotguns will be allowed on most military bases if you store them in the armory while camped there. Ask before you enter. Handguns are NOT allowed on any military bases under any circumstances that I'm aware of unless you are an active duty law enforcement officer there on official business.

12/3/2015 - DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Changes to the Dyess Force Protection Plan, signed and approved by Col. David Benson, 7th Bomb Wing commander, now permits authorized personnel that possess a current and valid Texas Concealed Handgun License or a reciprocating state concealed carry license to transport and secure privately-owned handguns in privately-owned vehicles within legal boundaries of Dyess Air Force Base.
