Use by Dependents - Need Clarification

My husband is retired USAF. I will be traveling without him in the next few months and am looking for clarification regarding the use of military famcamps/campgrounds. When a listed site indicates "retired" does that mean that only my husband can reserve/check in to the site? Or are dependents able to as well? I appreciate the feedback as it will be a huge help in my planning.

Normally (and according to the regulations), only the military member is authorized. The retired military member is authorized, not their dependents. However, many military campgrounds will allow immediate family members to use the campground without their military "sponsor" being there. Your best bet is to call the military campgrounds you're interested in and ask them about their local policy.

Plz link this reg Larry?

Macdill is another base that allows dependents/widows to act as their own sponsors as there is a few unaccompanied dependant snowbirds of the seasonal Macdill club whom are granted privs without their sponsor...sadly they're treated better than disabled veterans whom earned their merit to be on base unlike those whom are sponsored on base via the merits of another's service.

Yup, more of my "putting the cart in front of the horse" whining...I think it's safe to say it's political correctness where this treating unaccompied dependents better than veterans came about....I see it as trying to appease assumed deployed servicemebers family, but war on terror is drawn down now, so the assumption a dependents sponsor is depeloyed nowadays is laughable and needs to stop. Sadly it's the new norm and politically incorrect to challenge as it's seen as dependa bashing or "war on women"

Wife and kids are 'deployed' just like the mil member. When I retired wife also got a 'retirement' certificate for 20+ years faithful service! It might just have been a local thing but its true. Mil member deploys and dependents are on their own and should have the right to use without all the complaining. I was never shot at to be missed but sure was s--t at and hit numerous times.

Just think they are now going to open PX/BX to 'vets' not retired from what I understand. I know why because of the walmarts and stuff and AAFES is having a hard time competing. Their prices really not competitive, but they will save a few $$ on local taxes.
