Military Base Storage Lots was created by Engineer Mike
Does anyone have experience leaving their RV in a Military Base Storage lot? I am a new member here, Hello to everyone. I am going to Georgia in October and then returning to Colorado untill after Christmas then plan to winter somewhere in Texas. Rather than drive our 34' RV home I was wondering about parking it in a Military storage lot, does anyone use these and what experiences have you had? Thanks, Mike

The experience has been great, the rates are great. Depending on where you are the waiting list stinks.

Welcome to the website and the forums!
We've used RV Storage at March ARB for over a month when we travelled overseas. When active duty, I used RV storage a lot. As Gear Box stated, great experience with great rates. Luckily, we didn't have a waiting list.

Hi Engineer Mike,
We stored our rig at Kings Bay for almost 3 years. The price was right, but it was a real hassle. You have to be escorted to the storage lot, only have access Tue to Sat, and hours of access changed each time we went to pick up the rig.
We we upgraded to our current rig, we opted to store it closer. It costs us $20 more per month, but we have unlimited access to it and save 60 minutes in round trip drive time. We can hook up the rig and be gone in less time than it took going to MWR, waiting for an escort, and then driving to the lot.

You were lucky to be active duty at March...the wait list is approx 6 yrs for retired's. I called numerous bases and Ft Huachuca has $15 a month; 29 Palms is $100 a year; several others have looooong wait lists - it's sort of like the HOMESTEADERS...they pay a small fee and keep the spot forever, i.e. Seal Beach, Ft Lewis and numerous others. Camp Roberts is good and reasonable - locked behind the security office!! Some price their spots in accordance with the 'outside' prices, like Camp Pendleton's 3 campgrounds w/storage - $60 a month.

We go home every 3 mos for a 10 day visit, so in the Winter and Spring we ALWAYS leave our trailer at military storage lots. Have never had a bad experience and it's a lot cheaper than commercial storage places. Some require RV registration and title, others don't and I always feel like my fifth wheel is in good hands being on a military installation. If you only need the storage for a short period of time (a month or less) make SURE you ask if there is SHORT TERM storage available. When I just asked for STORAGE at Jacksonville NAS they said they didn't have any availability, but the next time I asked for SHORT TERM storage and had no problem getting a space.
