The DH and I are Camp Hosting this winter. It's our first time at this position. We are having a "discussion" on how late we should be avalible for check-in at night after the office has closed. He has his "preferred" time and I have mine. We'd like to get your feedback on what you feel should be the "Cut-off" time for check-in....
Thanks.

I voted 7PM -- everyone needs a life and we should be checked in early enough, and take care of daily business before that except in emergencies...
Having said that -- there should be a way for "late arrivals" to find and access the assigned site 24 hrs a day, or at least a waiting "spot" so real late arrivals can set up there without disturbing others at night and wait until the AM and then check in.
Worst case is to arrive late and have no one there, and no directions about where to wait (best plans fall into the dump tank occasionally) so we need "late arrival" directions so we don't bother others.

I will admit it, I voted for 7:00 PM, but I think even 6:00 would be good.
Warning, my thoughts ahead.
I have seen two sides to this, I have been to campgrounds where there was 24 hour service, and I was just at Naval Station Newport where I never saw the hosts at all. I don't know what it's like now, but at NAS Jacksonville the Auto Hobby Shop was the camp host and that was open until 9 or 10 Friday to Monday, and closed at 3:30 Tuesday to Thursday. There were plenty of times when I was at NAS Jax where we would open the "Honor Box" and find that someone had came and gone and we never saw them. Your just going to have to figure out what works best for the area you are in. Good Luck.

Will jump in here again for another comment -- it probably depends on the size of the CG and how much other responsibilites it includes. But the main thing is still check-in -- and if that is organized even for the late arrivals -- the rest of it will work out as soon as we figure out the schedule and availablility for other services.
A good idea is to post the guide in a conspicuous place, and then give each camper a written copy upon check-in
Hours for commisssary, shops, gas station etc -- also helps to know where some of the major off-base services are located and some good restaurants and the movie house -- I don't mean "promote the town economy" [town does that itself well enough] but just some general places that most travelers would like to know about --

I'll echo much of what has already been said. As long as there's instructions on what to do for late arrivals, then the hosts don't need to be available for check-in very late. 7:00pm is reasonable, but so would 5:00pm or 6:00pm - if there's late arrival instructions.
As said earlier, it also depends on busy and how large the campground is. You'll need to adjust for your own situation. But don't feel guilty if you're not available 24hrs a day either!
Based on your involvement here, I KNOW you take pride in your campground and will do a great job.

I would like to mention something in addition to what I said above. When I stayed at Naval Station Newport I mentioned that there was no one there when checked in and that is true. What I failed to mention is that when I reserved my site they sent me a nice little info packet with a great deal of information in it about the campground, rules, directions, local information, and phone numbers I might need.
